Our Home Learning Diary – Week 10
It is now only less than a month until the end of the school year. Who could have guessed that the last 12 weeks would have turned out like this? We are literally living through history that one day will be taught and learnt in class rooms for future generations. How mind blowing is that? At the start of the lockdown, we celebrated Mother’s Day and today, after 10 weeks of our home learning plan, we celebrate Father’s Day! Yay and high fives to all the awesome daddies out there! We hope you have an amazing day celebrating and remembering father’s everywhere, including our Heavenly Father.
Note: #JasperBean is in Reception (age 4-5: EYFS), therefore his home learning is specific to him/his age. I have received permission to share parts of his home learning plan from his teachers.
English
We are fully into Phase 4 phonics which has a bunch of tricky words but no new sounds. Therefore we have been revising Phase 2 and 3 sounds, with a focus on “Consonant Blends”, such as “st”, “tr”, “nd”, “pt” etc.
- Revised
- First 100 High Frequency Words
- Phase 3 Phonics
- Phase 3 and phase 4 tricky words – These songs are very catchy and we love singing along to them.
- Phonics worksheets from Twinkl and Mrs Mactivity.
- Live Phonics from Twinkl Parents Group on Facebook
- This week we read/watched the story “Superworm“:
-
- Read the story together and identified the rhyming words.
- Discussed and wrote a list of all the different uses for Superworm.
- We made a superhero mask for Superworm and also a flower wand like the Lizards.
- Discussed the beginning, middle and end of the story in basic terms and drew a picture of each scenario.
- Made up our own new story (“The Farmersorus“) and thought about what the beginning, middle and end would be. Wrote and illustrated this.
- Wrote a short story of Superworms next adventure.
Superworm goes on Holiday - You can buy the Superworm book from here.
-
- Independent Reading

Maths
- This week we returned to our topic of Counting.
- This is an Early Learning goal. The aim is to count reliably from 1-20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number.
- Counted and ordered numbers from 1-20
- Counted forwards and backwards (mostly from 1-30), but also attempted bigger numbers.
- Games that we played to help with our maths.
- Jungle Maths Number Bond up to 20 (on Twinkl)
- Monster Sweet Shop Halving Game (on Twinkl)
- Funky Mummy (on ICT games)
- Maths games on Topmarks
There are a lot of activities and worksheets on Twinkl and Mrs Mactivity (free and paid subscription).
TWO great FREE resources to support and supplement our work.
