A review of the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix Car Seat

During our (lack) of preparation for the arrival of our second baby, we knew there were somethings that we couldn‘t reuse. Whether the baby was a boy or girl, we knew we could and would reuse all of #JasperBean’s baby items. However, when it came to the car seat, we knew we had to get a new one, not only because car seats have an expiry date (who knew!). But also because we no longer had the car seat from 4 years ago. Our 0+ choice of car seat was undeniably easy, even after 4 years, we still chose the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix.

Our Group 0+ car seat of choice:

The rear facing Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix suitable from birth to 13kg (roughly around 12 months dependant on how big your baby is).

Compatibility:

For our first pregnancy, we chose the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix. Not only because it was affordable, but also because it was so easy to install using the existing 3-point seat belt. It is also compatible with a range of ISOFIX bases. The buggy that we had purchased (Baby Jogger City Mini Zip) was also compatible with the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix. All we needed to purchase were the adapters to attach the car seat to the buggy. The seat only weighs in at 3.5kg, so transporting it from car to buggy to home was a doddle. Extremely important if you don’t want to wake a sleeping baby!

Safety:

Of course, safety was a real concern for us. I didn’t spend 9 months cooking my little one in my oven for us to compromise on safety just for a few savings. So although the Cabriofix only has a three-point harness, we found it extremely secure with the side impact protection. The harness was easy to adjust, even with just one hand. The thick padding meant that it was comfortable for our baby on long car journeys as well. Both #JasperBean and Wystan are small babies, so the support pillow, belt pads and head support was perfect for their tiny body. We didn’t want to buy anything that was not included with the car seat in case it would compromise the safety.

The Cabriofix has been thoroughly tested and is approved according to the European safety standard ECE R44/04. You can read more about this here.

Cleaning:

All covers are washable and are easily removed without having to remove the harness. Perfect for messy and/or sticky situations. If you or your baba have found a way to mess up the integrated sun canopy as well, then you would be happy to know that this is also removable. However, putting the sun canopy back in proved to be a little bit more difficult. I learnt that you actually had to remove the plastic rim and tuck the bottom edge in. A quick search on Youtube will get you some demos.

Warranty:

Best bargain of all? Maxi-Cosi provides a 24 month standard warranty and also a Lifetime Warranty on all their car seats, bases, strollers and carrycots. You can find out more about what these warranties cover here.  This provided us the confidence and peace of mind that the product we were using is of excellent quality.

With baby number 2, we decided to use the trusty ‘ol Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix again, however this time in Robin Red from Kiddies Kingdom. Kiddies Kingdom have been established for over 30 years and offer all types of baby and nursery equipment from the biggest brands at unbeatable prices. What baby products do you keep on going back to?
