For our Rhodes holiday, we had booked the Gennadi Grand Resort through a well-known U.K. travel operator in January 2018. This was a new resort opening during the SS2018. However, come mid February, we were informed that due to delayed construction, there was a great possibility that it would not be able to open by the end of April, which was when we had booked our stay. Our travel operator was very helpful and offered to book us at an alternative resort with the same group. We were keen to stay at Gennadi and continued to communicate with them and our travel operator for status updates. We were assured that the Gennadi was most probably ready to open on the 28th April. But booking us for an alternative hotel was so that we would be guaranteed a hassle-free stay in Rhodes.

After repeated emails and then being informed by the front office manager of the Gennadi Grand Resort that the official opening day was the 2nd May 2018, we decided to split our stay at the Lindos Imperial Resort & Spa and Gennadi Grand Resort, both were part of the Lindos Hotel Group.

5 days before our arrival in Rhodes, we confirmed our stay at both resorts without any issues with the Revenue and Reservations Manager.

A day before we were due to check into the Gennadi Grand Resort, the Reservations Manager expressed that due to bureaucracy, the resort was still awaiting their electricity permit! Until this was cleared and checks had been done, they wouldn’t be able to open their front doors or lights.

Whilst looking around the Lindos area, curiosity got the better of us. So we decided to drive over to the Gennadi Grand Resort to have a look at their progress.

This post is to inform other holiday-makers who have booked to stay at the Gennadi Grand Resort or who was looking to book of their current status. We understand that delays in construction is unavoidable and quite common, but just wanted to share our thoughts and findings. Gennadi Grand Resort has updated their website to reflect that their opening will be in the summer of 2018.

We were very happy with our stay in Rhodes and the Lindos Imperial. And would recommend it to anyone looking for their next travel destination. The great hospitality and warm welcome we received was undeniable.

We will definitely be back and can’t wait to see what the Gennadi Grand Resort will look like on completion.
