6 Places You Must Visit in Rhodes

The isle of Rhodes is a stunning medley of snoozy beaches, ancient ruins and historical remains, all immersed in a pleasant Mediterranean climate. If you’re visiting or thinking of going to this gorgeous destination, here are 6 places you do not want to miss whilst there.

6 Places You Must Visit in Rhodes.

Old Town

Exploring the Old Town, moat and walls are magical anytime of the year. There is so much to get lost in here, and trust me, you will get lost as there are over 200 roads that do not have names there! However, that’s part of the charm and you will not miss visiting the Streets of the Knights and Palace of the Grandmasters.

Governor’s Palace built in 1927. It was used by the Italians as the Governor’s Palace and today it houses the Prefecture of the Dodecanese. You will also find the Church of Evangelismos next to this beautiful building.

Lindos

You will find some of the best beaches around Lindos, so definitely not to be missed if you like a bit of sunbathing or watersports. This is also a very popular destination for families. For a cultural boost, visit the Acropolis of Lindos for superb views of the bay and Aegean sea. Wear suitable footwear if you’re visiting as some of the stoned paths are quite slippery.

Petaloudes (Valley of the Butterflies)

This is a 600 acre nature park, perfect for those hot summer days where you can’t get enough of the shade! It’s not an easy walk up and down, especially if you have a toddler. But definitely well worth it. We went at the beginning of the season, so there weren’t many butterflies to see. However, just being surrounded by nature and catching glimpses of a few butterflies, lizards, crabs etc was enough to perk a 3 year olds sense of exploration.

It was low season, so very little butterflies, but the beauty of nature never ceases to amaze us.

Symi Island

So okay, this is not on Rhodes, but when in Rhodes, Symi Island is definitely an excursion you can’t miss! This is a small Island popular with locals and tourists and ideal if you have a day or 2 to explore. This charming little place has a long history in sponge diving and also houses the Panormitis Monastery which is the most important and second largest monastery in the Dodecanese. You can see more photos and read about our one-day itinerary for Symi Island here.

Argo Restarant (Haraki)

I had to sneak this one in. This was a fantastic restaurant that we visited whilst in Rhodes and their service, food and location was fantastic! The restaurant may look up class, but the prices are super reasonable with a varied menu to please most palates.
