Perfect Day Out for Afternoon Tea Enthusiasts

If you are a fan of the British Afternoon Tea, then you definitely need to get your hands on “The Ultimate Afternoon Tea” experience by the Cookery School on Little Portland Street, London. If you can’t, don’t worry! I have included a few of my favourite sweets recipes below ⬇️ where you can exclusively access. So, last month, I had the pleasure of attending one of their classes and this was what they had on the menu:

  • shape finger bread rolls
  • sandwiches: egg mayonnaise, cucumber sandwiches, crab sandwiches and smoked salmon – all using best of British, locally sourced ingredients.
  • mini Scotch eggs using quail’s eggs and chicken mince
  • scones served with homemade rhubarb jam (this may change depending on season)
  • plain and savoury cheese and herb scones
  • Devonshire cream cake (the most delicate of sponges filled with whipped cream and topped with an Original Beans chocolate ganache)
  • Traditional lemon curd tartlet

The Ultimate Afternoon Tea Experience. We made these ourselves! Find recipes here!

Why you should try it out

  • Cooking and learning from the Pros

The class was led by the main chef with an assistant that helped out with the ingredients, washing and time keeping etc. We were encouraged to be involved by asking questions and being hands on. This was the perfect alternative way to learn about the history of Afternoon tea and cooking simultaneously. The chefs were professional, funny and took the time to explain methods and introduce the ingredients that we were cooking.

  • Quality of Ingredients

The school has a big focus on sustainability and seeks to find high quality ingredients. You can really taste the difference in the end product. They were were runners -up for “Most Sustainable Cookery School 2014” in the UK Cookery School Awards.

  • Practical Tips

Even if you’re a stranger to the kitchen, fear not! The course was well structured and they broke down every step. They removed jargon and provided a good balance between observing and participating. Overall, they made cooking fun so that you can actually go away knowing that you can at least attempt doing it alone at home! Even if its just one small aspect of the class.

  • Great Atmosphere

The place was informal and sociable. It’s such a great bonding session if you go with someone else. Even if you’re alone, we were so busy and everyone was so friendly that the hours breezed by.

  • Great Location

Situated a stones throw from Londons Oxford Circus station, the area is well served by many public transport.

  • At the end, you get to sit down and enjoy what you have made in class with a glass of bubbly and Tregothnan Cornish tea.

We were told that classes can accommodate up to 12 people, but on our day there were only 4 of us, so we finished with LOTS of food and even had some scones to take home.

  • Recipes sent directly to your inbox

You can practice everything you have learnt in the comfort of your own home!

My only con with the whole experience was that since we made so much food, it would have been nice if we were given the option to take more food away with us (we were given 2 scones each). S would have loved to try the mini scotch eggs!

Ok, I do have another con, but this really isn’t their fault. Due to our small class, we had to do alot of activities, so towards the end of the lesson, we were slightly rushed because we were such a small class. Therefore we had a lot to do to make sure we managed to make everything on the menu and also allow time for us to sit down and enjoy the food, as they were preparing for the next class. In the end, we over ran by 35 minutes, so it wasn’t a huge amount, but we were made conscious of the time and hence wasn’t as relaxing as it could have been.

That looks so yummy and I do love an afternoon tea, I just don’t want to cook it though, just eat it! I am so lazy #MMBC x

This sounds brilliant. It’s a shame you were rushed out though, it might have been better if they used the entire time for food prep and then sent you home with the food to relax and enjoy with your family. Feedback like this is always so useful for a company I think. Thanks for linking up with us this week. #bigpinklink
