Easy Toddler Halloween Costume

Halloween is fast approaching and to be honest, I have not prepared anything. We don’t really celebrate it, but I do want to dress him up because I never really had this when I was a kid. Plus when I was doing #JasperBean’s monthly baby photos, there was always a halloween photo. Now that he is a bit older, I’m allowing him to (a certain extent) decide what his halloween costume will be. He hasn’t quite grasped the concept of Halloween or why some people are decorating their garden with skulls, spiders and body pieces. While we were browsing for some potential costume ideas, he really wasn’t keen on anything scary, dark, furry, messy or halloween-y… So, we needed something quick and easy that he could get involved in as well! Here’s our easy toddler halloween costume for 2017. Hope you like it!

Re-use it, don’t lose it

#JasperBean love’s nothing more than cooking, so when I asked him to dress up in his favourite chef costume, he was more than co-operative! This was essential as I wanted him to enjoy Halloween, rather than be scared.

This is definitely too adorable to be a halloween outfit!

Add some colour

To make it more halloween-y, we used Crayola Washable Ready Mix Paint to create some fake blood. I chose to use this particular paint as the name says it all – it’s washable.

However if like us, you are getting your clothes stained, then be careful. You may want to patch test it first and also leave it in the washing machine for a couple of cycles to get all the paint off, and definitely don’t leave it on for too long. Here’s more information on how to remove washable paint from clothing and fabrics. However, in the image below, you can see that the paint has pretty much all come off and this was taken after only hand washing once with some soap. #Winning!

The Mess and The Clean Up: After just hand washing it once, the paint has cleaned off pretty well. (close up in the middle image shows there is still a tinge of pink residue)

Once we had finished decorating his apron, we (or I), decided he needed to look a bit older for the part. So, I fished out the face paint and voilà!

Aged in seconds! Kind of looks like a mugshot as well. 😛

Setting the scene

Messing up the apron and getting a beard was just half the fun. #JasperBean loves his kitchen set and couldn’t resist getting his knives from the Play-Doh Kitchen Creations Shape N Slice Play Set to look the part. So I reciprocated with my chopping board and jelly babies!! Let the messy play commence!

This really isn’t an attempt at creating a scary halloween costume, but it was definitely a friendly and easy toddler halloween costume. We had so much fun trying this look out. But next year, we will be bigger, better and definitely more demanding! Watch this space!

Thank you for reading and until next time,

Love, Msmamabean x

This is creepily cute. We don’t celebrate that much in New Zealand, but when my girls were younger I would let them dress up. It was almost always the same every year – one went as a witch and the other as a fairy.

This is such a cute costume. He looked like he had so much fun putting it together. And I’m sure he got a kick out of having that little beard. Really original idea.

He looks so cute! I love the photos of him “chopping” the jelly. This proves that we don’t have to spend much on Halloween costumes. Just a little creativity goes a long way!
