DIY and Craft / Love

2 ingredients Cloud Dough/Moon Sand! What are you waiting for? (Edible version available too!)

#JasperBean loves playing in the sandbox at nursery! Most days he will come home with sand in his clothes and hair and I know he’s definitely had a good day! The messier the better and he just can’t get enough of it! So with the weather being lighter and warmer, but not warm enough to take a trip down to the beach, our alternative was either to buy play sand or make our own Cloud Dough/Moon Sand!! Did I just say make our own??? YES!!!!! I was born to DIY, or at least it’s something I love and am passionate about, so, of course, I was going to do that and it couldn’t have been any easier! It’s safe, clean and oh so easy! you can even make it extra magical by adding sparkles or glitter.

I decided to make a batch of 4 different colours and here’s what I used for each batch:

You can use any colour you want!

Flour and Chalk

all ingredients mixed

Cloud Dough/Moon Sand
Admittedly the mixture with the baby oil smells lovelier but if you use vegetable oil and aren’t keen on the smell, you can always add a few drops of vanilla essence or some other flavouring like banana, strawberry or chocolate! Oh, they will definitely have a taste of this! 🙂

Cloud Dough/Moon Sand is such an amazing sensory play that even much younger babies will love experimenting with it. It feels so good between their fingers (and toes), they will surely fall in love with it and ask for more. I definitely enjoyed making/playing it with #JasperBean and will without a doubt return to this recipe regularly. If you are lucky to have any leftovers, place it in an airtight container or Ziploc bag for next time! Waste not, want not.

Testing it out!

testing it outAfter a while, with all the colours mixed together, the sand did turn into a pale white-ish colour. From the pictures below, you can see that this did not stop him from having fun and making a mess, but next time, I will try with more chalk or brighter food colourings for a more vibrant mixture.

Give this recipe a try and let me know what you think or what else you would do to improve it. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! 🙂

Until next time,

Love… MsMamaBean x

What a great idea. I can imagine that it would fascinate little ones for ages as they play and experience it. Nice to know the ingredients that they may be putting in their mouths. I’m betting that making it is a fraction of the price. #MMBC

Hi Nita, this moon sand looks fab! And I particularly like the edible version, especially for little children who can’t help putting things in their mouth. If my children were younger I would give this a go, that’s for sure.

Pinning for others to see.

Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC.
